How We Rank Seafood Restaurants
Every ranked list on this site uses one formula: a Bayesian (weighted) average of a restaurant's Google rating and its number of Google reviews. Nothing is placed by hand.
The formula
score = (v ÷ (v + m)) × R + (m ÷ (v + m)) × C
- R = the restaurant's Google rating (1 to 5 stars) in our data.
- v = its number of Google reviews.
- m = 50. This pulls ratings with few reviews toward the average, so 5.0 stars from 6 reviews does not beat 4.6 stars from 700.
- C = 4.35, the average Google rating of the 373 listings that meet the review threshold.
Who gets ranked?
Only restaurants with a rating and at least 25 Google reviews in our data. Others are listed A–Z under "not ranked yet". Ties go to the restaurant with more reviews, then by name A–Z.
Worked example
Mariscos Ruta 16 y Más: R = 4.9, v = 6566. Score = (6566 ÷ 6616) × 4.9 + (50 ÷ 6616) × 4.35 = 4.896.
What about the "Owner's pick" box?
This site is owned and operated by the owner of Fountain View Fish Market. The owner's business is shown in a separate, labeled box. That box is not part of the ranking and does not change anyone's score. If the owner's business qualifies, it appears in the ranked list only at the position the formula gives it.
How often is it updated?
We refresh ratings, review counts and hours about once a month. Each listing shows the date it was last checked.
